Sneem highly commended as one of Ireland’s top six small tourism towns

A delegation from Sneem travelled to the Morrison Hotel in Dublin on Wednesday, 25th November 2015 to attend Fáilte Ireland’s Top Tourism Towns Awards. The Tourism Towns Award was designed by Fáilte Ireland to promote Irish towns and villages working hardest to enhance their appeal to tourists.

The scheme “is not about recognising those towns that do best from tourism but rather those that do their best for tourism,” said Orla Carroll, Fáilte Ireland’s Director of Strategic Development.

A panel of ‘secret shoppers’ visited each of the shortlisted towns to measure their tourism performance and the level of welcome to visitors. This was Sneem’s first year in this competition and we were delighted to reach the top six in the Small Towns category alongside Kenmare, Clonakilty, Adare, Ardmore and Lismore, who deservedly won the Award.

Sneem announced as one of the Top 15 Tourism Towns in Ireland

Fáilte Ireland has announced the shortlist of 15 towns from across the country for its 2015 Tourism Towns Awards. The competition, in place since 2012, is designed to recognise Irish towns and villages where the local community have worked hard to enhance their appeal to tourists.
The towns selected will now be subject to unannounced inspections by ‘secret shoppers’ over the coming weeks. Then the list gets narrowed down to 10, with the best large and small tourism town being announced in November.
