Blue Dots of the Iveragh Peninsula

We were honoured to have Sneem chosen by the Local Authorities Programme as the location to show the first public screening of this beautiful and important film. Huge thanks to Sneem Story House for accommodating the screening, and thank you to everybody who came out to watch it ahead of the unveiling of our new village sculpture by Don Cronin featuring endangered freshwater Pearl Oysters, Minister for Nature, Heritage, and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan was kind enough to unveil the sculpture to for the community.

Local Authority Waters Programme produced ‘Blue Dot Waters of the Iveragh Peninsula’, a short film raising awareness about the high status waterbodies or Blue Dots found in Kerry’s Iveragh Peninsula.

Filmed by CrowCrag Productions and narrated by broadcaster, writer and ecologist Anja Murray.

Thanks to everyone involved in the project, including Kerry County Council, Waters Of LIFE, LIFE Programme and Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Gold Medal for Sneem

Three volunteers travelled to Croke Park on Friday 24th October for the annual SupereValu TidyTown Awards. This year we were delighted to win a gold medal with a score of 393, an increase of 13 marks from last year when nwe were awarded a silver medal. Congratulations to the overall winner, Carrick-on-Shannon with a score of 400.

Huge credit to Joe Murphy and his CE team, to the dedicated Tuesday Tidyups team, to St.Michael’s National School who participated so enthusiastically in our litter picks, and to all the businesses and home owners who keep their premises so well.

In the Special Awards, we were thrilled to win a Bat Conservation Ireland Gardening for Bats Design Space Award. Thanks to Katy Steele’s brilliant design for the Wild Garden, we now have the funding to further transform this wildliife garden for the benefit of bats.

Sneem Community Notice Board Issue 245

The November issue featured upcoming events such at the Sneem International Folklore and Storytelling Festival which takes place from 11th to 13th November this year. The Tidytowns adjudication report is printed in full inside and there’s news from both schools and local clubs. There are photos from the Scarecrows on the Green in Sneem Festival and of course, news of Sneem Resource Centre’s recent move to new premises in the South Square.

Bottle Filler installed on Sneem Bridge

MeetPat Bottle Filling Station on Sneem Bridge

Sneem Tidy Towns Working Group is delighted to see our new bottle filling station installed on Sneem Bridge on 5th July 2019.  This unit provides free filtered water for all and its aim is to reduce the amount of single use plastic waste being produced by encouraging people to refill their bottles.
