The primary focus of TidyTowns is to encourage communities to improve their local environment and make their area a better place to live, work and visit. The village of Sneem has been participating the National TidyTowns Competition every year since first entering in 1963 and won the overall award in 1987.
View the footage from the RTE archives recording the ocassion, it is interesting to listen to President’s Hillery’s comments regarding the environment at that time.
As the village of Sneem is situated in an extraordinarily scenic area, located on both the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way between the mountains and the sea, its inhabitants feel very connected to nature. It was an obvious step to enter the Special Award based on the All Ireland Pollinator Plan in 2018 and we were surprised and delighted to win the South and Mid-West Regional Pollinator Award that year and also in the following year 2019.
